Calendula Officinalis: A Review of Its Taxonomical, Phytochemical and Health Studies

ABSTRACT Background: Calendula Officinalis, commonly known as pot marigold is used worldwide because of its various medicinal properties. The plant contains various phytochemicals including carbohydrates, amino acid, lipids, flavanoids and other constituents. The plant also possesses various biological activities including wound healing, immunostimulant, antiinflammatory, antifungal etc. Methods: Litreature has been collected through a library, Sci-finder, Web of Science, Pubmed and Science Direct. This review shares an updated information on the botany, distribution, health benefits, phytochemistry and pharmacology of Calendula Officinalis.
