Causes & impact of Water Pollution of Brahmani River in Odisha: A Review

ABSTRACT

Water is vital resource required by living organisms and is also most essential basic component to all living being. Water occupies 71% of the planet earth surface, out of all the available water on the earth surface only 3% constitute fresh water which is present in the form of ice caps, glaciers, rivers, lakes, ponds, streams and ground water resources. The most important and vulnerable freshwater system is the river and plays an important role in the sustenance of all life. Water is the most fundamental component of any natural resource, and the crisis of fresh water has posed a formidable challenge worldwide. There is an increasing menace of water pollution throughout the globe. The major reverie system is getting polluted day by day in India. This is due to alarming rate of industrialization, urbanization and growth of mechanization. In similar way the water of Bramhani River is so polluted due to industrial and mining activities and so developed town and cities near by the River bank of Brahmani. This present paper shows that natural and manmade causes are main source of pollution of Brahmani River. It belongs to class ‘c’ water quality category.
