Challenges and Resiliency of Students in Higher Education Institutions in Times of Pandemic

ABSTRACT

Thepurpose of this study was to determine the challenges and resiliency of students in higher education institutions in times of pandemic in Region XII. Participants of the study were 333 freshmen education students employing the probability random sampling techniques. A questionnaire and interview were used for data collection. Both quantitative and qualitative data analysis methods were employed to infer results.

As to the results, the level of challenges experienced by the students is moderately felt; the level of resiliency is strongly manifested; there is a significant relationship between academic skills and adaptive help-seeking; there is a significant relationship between academic skills and negative affect and emotional response; there is a significant relationship between learner’s motivation and perseverance; there is a significant relationship between learner’s motivation and adapted help-seeking; there is a significant relationship between a learner’s motivation and negative affect and emotional response; there is an influence of Learner’s Motivation on perseverance; there is an Influence of Academic Skills on Adaptive help-seeking; there is an Influence of learner’s motivation on Adaptive help-seeking; there is an Influence of Academic Skills on Negative Affect and Emotional Response; there is an Influence of Learner’s Motivation on Negative Affect and Emotional Response. Thus, It can be declared that while most students are experiencing challenges, it proves that challenges are related to and influenced resilience. Students are resilient as they tend to have self-motivated, persistent to finish their studies, and have a positive outlook on life.
