ABSTRACT
One of the most prevalent risk factors for cardiovascular diseases & atherosclerotic disease is hypercholesterolemia. One-third of ischemic heart disease is caused by elevated cholesterol levels, which are present in both industrialized and developing countries worldwide.
Although hypercholesterolemia is managed with modern treatment, there are long-term negative side effects of the same.The Indian subcontinent hasbeen using the Ayurvedic medicinal system extensively for centuries to cure ailments. In the current research,the cholesterollowering effects of Arjuna bark (Terminalia arjuna) and Karela fruit(Momordica charantia) on discarded non- infectious pooled serum samples were assessed.
Ayurvedic therapy has been in trend recently for effective dyslipidaemia management , owing to it being herbal ,natural & safer to use.
We aimed to determine the importance of karela powder for itstotal cholesterol-lowering activity in-vitrousing arjuna as the reference standard& the outcomes of the study were encouraging.
