Comparative Study of Different countries Code for Design of Concrete Structure
Author Name : Syed Mohammad Ali, Mr. Rameezut Tauheed
ABSTRACT
Every country has their own guidelines for the design of structures. Design codes arethe most important and basic tools for structural design engineers. The diversity ofcodal provisions for countries worldwide leads to the problem when engineers have tomove from one country to other. RCC building design of every country is based on their geographical location. In today world of globalization, an engineer must be efficient to understand and handle codes of various countries. Thus, knowledge of main features commonalities anddifferences of the various code of practice is necessary to form a common platform forstructural design throughout the world. The comparison between these building codeswill help to form a most effective and economical building design. Comparison is madebetween various reinforced concrete codes such as Indian code (IS 456-2000), British code (BS 8110), American code (ACI 318) and Canadian code (CSA A23.3). This research constitutes comparative study of different countries code for serviceability & design of structure. Analysis is done in STAAD pro software for a 5 storey RCC building for all mentioned country code by keeping all loads constant including earthquake as per IS 1893-2016 for zone-IV with different load combinationas per country code. Concrete compressive strength taken 25N/mm2& reinforcement steel bars tensile strength taken 500N/mm2constant for all. STAAD result helps to compare support reaction, horizontal sway, column design, beam design, and slab design for different countries code.
