Comparative Study of the Attitude of Rural and Urban Parents towards Pre-School Education
Author Name : Dr. Rishu Kumari
ABSTRACT
Universally, the early childhood years are expected to lay the foundation for inculcation of basic values and social skills in children. It is believed that these values are imbibed from the family as sanskaras. Consequently, in the past, much of the early care and education of the child was informal, within the family and largely through grandmother’s caring practices, stories, and traditional infant games, handed down from one generation to the next. With growing urbanization, and an increase in women’s participation in the work force across the country, among all socio-economic groups, there has been a sea change in the social structure and practices in the last few decades. The environment of the young child influences the development of cognitive skills and emotional skills due to the rapid brain growth that occurs in the early years. Pre-school education, like all other terms of education, is intended by the society that controls it to transmit important cultural values to the participants. The investigator has undertaken the study entitled Comparative study of the attitude of Rural and Urban parents towards Pre-School Education. The objective of the study was to find out the difference between Rural and Urban parents towards Pre-School Education. Null hypothesis was formulated. One hundred randomly selected subjects were taken for the present study i.e. fifty seven from rural and forty three from urban. Manual for preschool education “Parental Attitude Scales towards Pre-school Education” as developed and standardized by S. Venkatesan, used‘t’ test was employed to establish the difference of attitude towards preschool education.
