Contribution of Swami Vivekananda to Education

ABSTRACT Many of the philosophers put efforts towards developing of complete educational system. Swami Vivekananda says there is a need for having aesthetics and fine arts for all-round development of the learners. Japan is one of the countries that took initiative for implementing such policy and became a great nation. As per Swamiji, as a human being, we need to develop our higher nature and the spiritual qualities and of course our action and thoughts. To direct towards a great aim, there should be a combination of our impulses, actions and thoughts which together moves towards a goal. Technical education that plays an important role in different industries, and as a result of it, the youths become capable to earn themselves. This technology can make people more capable and due to it the people start a new business and they do not depend on other sources. He mentioned that all of us can accept good practices from the west so that we can advance simultaneously. As per his understanding, there is a need for combining the western’s scientific practices with the spirituality of India so that we can have better systems to advance our nation. The education system should have all the needed facilities to partake to the material development of the nation and maintain spiritual heritage. At last, Swamiji always concentrated on the innate and inborn abilities of the students as which result of which learners can become capable of giving service in the actual society where large masses are waiting to receive appropriate knowledge who can also contribute for the development of the society as well.
