Conventions Related to Child Marriage:- A International Perspective

Author Name : Anusha M J, Dr. Aarati Tyagi

At its base, child marriage involves a series of human rights violations. Every year, a large number of young girls are killed as a result of this practice. There are behaviour and beliefs that must be recognised and accepted as constraints of Indian culture and tradition in a country rich in diversity. One of the most serious social ills affecting the lives and futures of India's youth is child marriage. The practice of underage marriage has a greater impact on girls than on boys. Girls are not allowed to go to school and remain illiterate as a result of gender inequality in society; they are forced to stay at home to conduct household chores and care for their siblings. In comparison to boys, they have less mobility. Girls who marry young become pregnant at a young age and face serious reproductive health issues. This article focuses on only international perspective related to Child Marriage where this article also includes many conventions which are discussed.
