Cultural Narratives in Business: Lessons from the Ramayana for Work-Life Balance and Trade Management
Author Name : Vivek Agrawal, Dr. Namrata Gain
ABSTRACT This research explores the integration of cultural narratives from the Ramayana in modern business practices, specifically focusing on work-life balance and trade management strategies. Using a survey-based methodology, the study gathered data from 200 managers across various sectors, aiming to understand how leadership principles and ethical teachings from the Ramayana influence managerial behavior, decision-making, and overall work-life harmony in the context of trade and commerce. The survey consisted of structured questions measuring managers & 39; perceptions of leadership, emotional resilience, prioritization, and resource management, all framed through the lens of the Ramayana. Statistical analysis, including correlation and regression models, revealed a significant positive relationship (p < 0.05) between adherence to these ancient principles and enhanced work-life balance, as well as more effective trade management practices. Key principles such as dharma (duty), karma (action), and bhakti (devotion) emerged as strong factors contributing to improved managerial efficiency, strategic decision making, and emotional resilience. The findings suggest that the Ramayana, some cultural narrative rich with leadership lessons, offers practical guidance for contemporary business managers, particularly in balancing professional and personal responsibilities while navigating the complexities of trade and commerce. This research contributes to the growing discourse on incorporating traditional wisdom into modern management practices. Future research could expand on these insights by examining their application in global trade settings and cross cultural comparisons.
