Design and Analysis of Oil Refinery Steel Structure Using Staad Pro Software with Alteration to Conventional Steel Sections
Author Name : Bhalerao Rupali Alish, Dr. M.P. Wagh
ABSTRACT
There are various types of industrial structures for example; warehouses, storage sheds, boiler house, coal yards, refinery structure. Structure members for the design for such industrial structure are steel sections. Steel sections are mainly heavy I-sections, welded plate sections, on the basis of the loads the structure withstand or held. Steel requirement for such structure is huge. While doing economical design of the structure, consideration of all the factors like serviceability, its strength is essential. Industrial structures are huge and consumes tones of structural steel along with secondary steel. Making it economical will definitely reduce overall cost of the structure. Use of laced columns, battened columns, PEB will definitely reduce the steel consumption. So, this research paper is mainly focus on the replacement to conventional single steel column to the new technique to make the structure economical and safe at the same time. Use of new techniques helps to reduce the overall cost of the structure. This research paper is to check whether replacement to the uniform column section is possible with the laced column, battened column or PEB. Also, how much weight reduction is possible with this. To compare the steel consumption with single uniform section and laced section, oil refinery structure with plan dimensions 62m X 52m is analyzed using STAAD pro software. Results for both structures are compared.
