Design and FE Analysis of Spherical Pressure Vessel under combined pressure and temperature loading

Author Name : Aapuri Laxminarsimha Rao, Praveen Kumar Patil

ABSTRACT

This paper presents an estimation of spherical pressure vessel behavior under pressure, temperature with static load, thermal load and coupled load conditions with support and without a support structure. In this maximum plastic radius is considered and the optimum wall thickness of the vessel for a given temperature gradient across the wall thickness is obtained. Elasto-plastic behavior of spherical pressure vessel material SS304 is studied by varying the spherical vessel thickness to determine the various stresses, strains to withstand to the applied loads. To validate the above model, structural analysis and thermal analysis is done by ANSYS commercial software. The Von-Mises yield criterion has been used to determine the stress distribution. The results obtained by theoretical analysis are compared with the FE simulation and showed a good agreement.
