Diasporic Poet on the Internet: A Study of Rupi Kaur’s Poems in the Light of Migration and Diaspora

ABSTRACT
Internet has revolutionalised the way people viewed literature. People of the digitally modern era makes use of social media platforms to market themselves and to showcase their talents and abilities. Undoubtedly the internet had made a change onhow people conceive literature. A group of poets of on the internet called the instapoets has made a remarkable turn to the genre of poetry. Rupi Kaur is one such poet who has used the medium of social media to gain readership. This paper will analyse how Kaur being a diasporic subject has used the internet to influence others and solve her ambiguities. It will also study some of her poems from the collection thesun and her flowers on the grounds of diaspora and migration. Kaur skillfully universalizes the idea of migration through her poetry. The major themes that are discussed in this paper include the unresolved problems of nostalgia, homeland and language of the diasporic subjects. The major difference between the primary and secondary immigrants in the new land is also been studied with reference to Kaur’s poems.
