“Dimensional Analysis of Home Environment with Respect to Gender in Secondary and Higher Secondary School Students in Hyderabad”

ABSTRACT The present study is an attempt to analyze the dimensions of the variable Home Environment with respect to Gender. The sample of the study consists of 352 secondary and higher secondary school students (159 boys & 193 girls) of Hyderabad city. The Home Environment Scale (HE) prepared by Aaliya Akhter & Dr. Shail Bala Sexana is used to collect the data. For data analysis, Mean, Standard deviation and Standard Error are used as measures of descriptive statistics. T-test is used under inferential statistics to calculate the significance of the result for alpha = 0.05, df = 350. The variable Home Environment is influenced by Gender. The mean Home Environment of girls is greater than mean Home Environment of boys. The dimensions of Protectiveness, Parental Involvement, Punishment, and Permissiveness are found to be influenced by Gender. The dimensions Academic Stimulation, Reward, Parental Warmth, Participation in home affairs, Control, Parental Expectation are not influenced by Gender. The educational implications are discussed.
