Does Ayurveda Suggest or Forbid Non – Vegetarian Diet?

ABSTRACT
What to eat, what not to eat is the ambiguity arising in the mind of all people. Nowadays, Ayurveda has gained popularity all around the world all are trying to adapt to Ayurvedic lifestyles and diets. People are confused about whether Ayurveda suggests following a non-vegetarian diet or forbids following a non -vegetarian diet. Ayurvedic texts like Charaka Samhita, Susruta Samhita, and Ashtangahridya quote mamsa (meat) as ahara(food) and oushadhi(medicine) in many contexts. Various food preparations and medicinal preparations have been dealt with in these books. Individually meat of animals and birds is taken and used for our health and is described here separately. In Samhitas, there, arementionsof different types of meat according to different seasons. What is the reason behind the people in India forbidding the consumption of meat? This article is written to give clarity to the type of diet one should follow to be free from diseases, along with mentioning the importance of including non -vegetarian food in the diet.
