Earthquake Study Regarding Site Specific Ground Response Analysis of Hoshiarpur

Author Name : Anuj Kumar, Gagandeep kaur grewal

ABSTRACT

India is one of the developing countries among all the nations but still one of the major challenges our nation is facing today is, to reduce the vulnerability of earthquake hazards in future, to make peoples life safe. From the past investigations done by various researchers and seismologists, it is uncovered that ground shaking can cause disastrous harm to any infrastructure, dangers to any country (either it is developed or developing) and also it is capable of damaging urban frameworks, including structures which can directly affects the economical standard of any nation. This natural disaster has a tendency not only to cause loss of lives & damage to property but it also leaves some economical crisis in its wake. Therefore earthquake study of any site plays an important role for safe construction in future.

In the present study one dimensional site specific ground response analysis of a specific site’s in Hoshiarpur region (Punjab, India) has been carried out to study the change in dynamic properties of soil under seismic loading at particular input ground motion. The study of ground response parameters for soil and rock, in order to analyze soil-structure interaction is an important task for structure engineers as well for geotechnical engineers for safe construction.

In the present research a list of important dynamic properties such as PGA, PSA, Response spectra etc are evaluated on the bases of  input ground motion, using equivalent linear ground response analysis (DEEPSOIL 6.1 software -one of the method to study G.R.A) to study the response of specific sites in Hoshiarpur when subjected to a particular strong seismic ground vibration. The software uses various input parameters and gives the estimated output values using various transfer functions. In short, DEEPSOIL uses transfer function as a multiplication factor on various input parameters to get output values such as frequency, amplitude, PGA, PSA, Response spectra etc.
