Eco-Cut: Designing a Sustainable Pedal-Powered Hacksaw for General Applications

ABSTRACT In today's era of technology and automation, manual tools like the hacksaw still hold significant value due to their simplicity, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. To further enhance the utility and user-friendliness of the traditional hacksaw, we have developed the Eco-Cut, a pedal-operated hacksaw designed for general applications. This innovative tool combines the efficiency of a conventional hacksaw with the convenience of pedal operation. The machine uses a sharp and replaceable hacksaw blade to cut objects efficiently and features a robust crankshaft mechanism coupled with a revolving chain and sprocket operation, enhancing its durability and efficiency. A comfortable seating arrangement is provided to ensure prolonged operation without fatigue. The machine's frame is designed to securely hold the work piece while minimizing vibration. Additionally, individual components of the device are designed to be detachable, allowing for easy portability. The fundamental principle behind the Eco-Cut is the conversion of rotating pedalling force into a reciprocating sliding blade motion
