Effect of Forward Chaining Technique to Improve Dressing Skills in Children with Moderate Autism Spectrum Disorder

ABSTRACT

Paediatric occupational therapy focuses on helping children of all ages with sensory, physical, cognitive challenges, be as independent as possible in all of their lives.The aim of the study was to determine the effect of forward chaining technique to improve dressing skills in children with moderate autism spectrum disorder. The study was done among at Aadhura special school in Kanchipuram and Child developmental centre at Saveetha hospital in Chennai. Total 30 samples were selected. 15 samples were placed in control group underwent conventional therapy and 15 samples were placed in experimental group underwent forward chaining technique along with conventional therapy were selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. To identify the level of autism among participants ISAA scale was administered. Pre-test and post-test were done by using Wee-FIM scale to find their difficulties in upper body dressing and lower body dressing. The intervention was done for 3 months, 3 sessions per week (18 sessions).The results showed that there is a significant change in experimental group after receiving forward chaining technique.
