ABSTRACT Background: Diaphragm is involved with breathing and provides trunk stability along with the abdominal muscles. The deep lumbar-pelvic cylinder musculature (diaphragm, TrA and pelvic floor muscles) modulate intra-abdominal pressure, essential for both respiration and lumbar-pelvic stability. Manual Diaphragm Release Technique is an intervention intended to directly stretch the diaphragm muscle, the aim is to increase movement in the rib cage and the spine in order to improve lung function and circulation as well as TrA recruitment. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the effectiveness of Manual Diaphragm Release Technique (MDRT) over Transversus Abdominis Muscle Activation, thoracic expansion and pulmonary function. This study was the first one to explore relationship between diaphragm stretching and Transversus Abdominis activation.
