ABSTRACT
Geopolymer concrete is a versatile product gaining importance due to it reducing the greenhouse effect thereby global warming, as it is devoid of cement. Geopolymer concrete (GPC) is prepared by geopolymerization of alkaline solution with binder materials of Fly Ash and GGBS in the present study. This paper deals with the effect of Natural Zeolite on the mechanical properties of Fly Ash-GGBS based Geopolymer concrete. Sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) are used as alkaline activators. The molarity of NaOH is 10M. The ratio of Na2SiO3 and NaOH is 2.5. The samples prepared were cured at ambient temperature. Further study is done in the above GPC mix by replacing Fly Ash with Zeolite at different percentages i.e., 5%, 7.5%, 10% in the mixes. Mechanical properties of geopolymer concrete with zeolite were studied and compared with conventional GPC. It was found that the optimum replacement of Natural Zeolite for Fly Ash was 7.5% corresponding to maximum strength properties.
