Effectiveness of Hot Bath Versus Contrast Bath Therapy With Strengthening Exercises For Heel Pain Among Textile Shop Workers

Author Name : Jenifer Augustina.S, Vinisha.R

ABSTRACT

Background and Aim Of Study: A person who is in good health can work efficiently and generate money. A person who is ill spends a lot of money on drugs and doctor visits. To maintain healthy health, it is vital to take precautions. In all textile shops, heel discomfort is the major cause of disability and absence from work. The heel is a padded cushion of fatty tissue that maintains its shape despite body weight and movement pressure. It protects the foot’s structures, including the calcaneus, muscles, and ligaments. The heel is responsible for absorbing 110 percent of the body’s weight. This increased pressure hit and load force may result in the weakening of the heel fat pad, which is a general interest of heel pain. The corpus adiposum, or fat pad, is normally around 1-2 cm thick. Heel discomfort is a frequent foot complaint that can be caused by long periods of standing, tension, overuse, injury, and so on…. It is defined as physical soreness in the back or on the underside of the heel that makes daily tasks difficult. To compare the effect of hot pack versus contrast bath therapy with strengthening exercises for heel pain among textile shop workers.

Method: A convenient sample of 30 subjects working in textile shop with heel pain was sort-outed based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Subjects was randomly divided into two groups, Group A and B. Group A with 15 subjects were given hot bath with strengthening exercises, while Group B with 15 subjects were given contrast bath therapy with strengthening exercises. The pre-test and post-test was obtained through Foot function index(FFI).

Result: The results revealed that Group B showed reduction in heel pain and FFI score than Group A.The mean pre-test value for Group A was 57.00, the mean pre-test value for Group B was 52.61. The mean post-test value for Group A was 11.73, the mean post-test value for Group B was 7.40. As a result, both groups have a significant decrease in foot function index. As a result, the mean values of Group A and B differ significantly.

Conclusion: From the above results, it was identified that contrast bath therapy with strengthening exercises is more effective when compared to hot bath with strengthening exercises for reduction of heel pain and increase foot function activities.
