Effectiveness of Structured Teaching Program on Prevention and Management of Constipation among Mothers of Children Underwent GI Surgery

Methods: Quasi experimental design was used in the present study. The sampling technique used were convenience sampling technique .20 samples were selected from the pediatric ward. In which 10 subjects each in experimental and control group were selected. The demographic details and the knowledge level was collected with the help of a structured knowledge questionnaire. By using frequency, percentage, paired t-test and chi-square the entire data was analyzed.
Results: 15.6 the mean posttest score of mothers in the experimental group was significantly higher (p<0.05) than the pretest score of 8.8.The mean posttest 15.6 knowledge score of mothers in the experimental group was significantly higher (p<0.05) than the mean posttest knowledge score of 7.6 of control group. The results show that there is a significant association (p<0.05) between knowledge score and religion, number of children of the mother. The teaching program was found to be effective in enhancing the knowledge of mothers of children underwent gastrointestinal surgeries.
Conclusion: The study concluded that the teaching program on prevention and management of constipation is very much effective for mothers of children underwent Gastrointestinal surgery. By securing adequate knowledge about the topic which really helps the mothers to follow healthy practices in future.
