ABSTRACT

Study design: Randomized Clinical Trial study.

Objective: To study the effects of taping and LASER therapy on Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome patients in terms of pain relief.

Background: Conservative rehabilitation methods are assumed as a fundamental part of treatment in Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome patients.

Methods: In this study 40 male patients between ages of 18 and 22 years with a diagnosis of Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome were participated. Patients were split into two groups randomly. One group for taping (n=20) and other group for LASER (n=20). Both groups followed the treatment protocol for over 4 weeks. Pain intensity was assessed with VAS.

Result: One way ANOVA test was used for statistical analysis. Both taping and laser therapy groupsindicate improvement in pain relief. The mean VAS score changes from 6.75 to 1.8 in tapping group while in laser group the mean VAS score changes from 6.5 to 0.9.

Conclusion: The application of laser therapy was slightly more effective than taping technique in the PFPS management.
