Environmental Impact Assessment: A Tool for Sustainable Development

ABSTRACT  A little of the earth belongs to those who are living and a little to those who are dead. But a large part belongs to those who are yet to be born. In order to ensure that development and environmental health move hand in hand ,anticipatory and participatory development tools are required for informed decision-making on optimal use of natural resources and sustainable development. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is one of such tools. This paper seeks to explain the concept of EIA and analyse its various aspects such as its core values, guiding principles, deficiencies and suggestions for its improvement.
