ABSTRACT
Pakshaghata Vyadhi is caused due to Vata dosha Prakopa. Acharya Charaka included it in the classification of 80 Nanatmaja Vata Vyadhis due to predominance of vata dosha. It is an example of Madhyammargagta Roga and it affects the function of Sira and Snayu of either Dakshina or Vama Paksha of the body. It leads to loss of movement and function of the half of the body. According to Ayurveda dietary factors like Ruksha, Laghu, Katu, Tikta, Kashaya Rasapradhana Ahar sevana (Khesari Rajmash Kalaya Chanaka), physical activities like Ativyavaya, Adhwagamana, Ativyayama, Vegsandharana, and mental factors like Chinta, Shoka, Bhya, Krodha are said to have definite role in the occurrence of Pakshaghata. According to modern Hypertention, Stroke, Haemorrhage, Ischemia are the main causes of hemiplegia. Due to its similarity it can be correlated with modern Hemiplegia.
