Evolution of Banking System in India

ABSTRACT
Banks are considered to be the support system for the economy. They regulate the flow of money into the market and thus maintain the monetary equilibrium in the society. To understand the banking system in a better way it is necessary to understand the evolution of banks in India. This paper aims to understand the history of banking system in India. The whole paper is divided into three parts with banking system before independence, after independence till 1990 and after 1990.
