Exorista Bombycis (Louis) Parasitic Effect On Consumption Digestion And Utilization Of Food In Larvae Of Bombyx Mori Linn Silkworm
Author Name : Sanjai Kumar Gupta, Ram Pravesh, Vikas Singh, Purshottam Yadav
ABSTRACT Silkworms are damaged by several insect pests like uzifly, Exorista bombycis. Uzifly is an economically important endo larval parasitoid that causes 15% yield loss of silkworm rearing. The extensive damage to silkworm crop due to Exorista bombycis menace in sericulture created dreadful situations and shaken the very root sericulture in India. Exorista bombycis parasitic effect on utilization of food in the fifth instar silkworm was study. The difference in food intake approximate digestibility (AD) and Growth rate (GR) between parasitized and normal larvae is statistically non significant. The result indicated that host parasite relation has influence on food utilization of host by decreasing efficiency of conversion of ingested dry matter in % (ECI) and efficiency of conversion of digested dry matter % (ECD) and increasing the consumption index (CI) at significant level. The uzifly disease as manifestation of parasitism and low shell weight gained by infected silkworm was the evidence of that. Exorista bombycis (Louis) is a serious endo parasitoid of mulberry silkworm which causes great economic loss to silk industry.
