Experimental Study on Recron 3s Fibre Reinforced Concrete with Silica Fume As a Partial Replacement of Cement
Author Name : D. Sindhuja, Dr. J. Thivya
ABSTRACT Concrete is a most used engineering material in most of the civil engineering structures so that the attention is taken for improving the property of concrete like strength and durability. Lots of waste materials are produced by industries in every year. I use the industry waste of silica fume to partly replace cementing material in concrete system addresses the sustainability issues and this uses will enable the concrete construction industry to become more sustainable. Recron 3s is a polypropylene monofilament, discrete, discontinuous short fibre. Recron 3s fibre is used in concrete to control and arrest cracks. The main objective of this experimental study is to investigate the strength performance of recron fibre reinforced concrete of M40 grade produced by replacing cement with silica fume in percentage like 10% in PPC and also addition of recron fibres in different percentages like 0%, 0.3%, 0.6% and 0.9%. In this study cube beam and cylinder specimens are prepared for compressive strength, flexural strength and split tensile strength tests and they were tested at the age of 7 days. The strength characteristics of conventional PPC & recron fibre reinforced concrete are compared. It is found that the addition of recron fibre and silica fume have beneficial effects on the mechanical properties of concrete.
