Fast Oral Dissolving Film: A Novel Approach To Drug Delivery

ABSTRACT

The current review demonstrates that one of the unique techniques in the world of pharmaceutical sciences is the use of oral fast dissolving films. In comparison to conventional dose forms, they have higher acceptance and patient compliance, no risk of choking, and superior safety and efficacy. ODFs were developed primarily to address the challenge of swallowing traditional oral dose forms. This method is beneficial for extending the patent life of currently available pharmaceutical products. When compared to traditional oral dosage forms, fast-dissolving oral films have higher patient compliance, increased efficiency, and improved safety. A strategy that is practicable from an industrial standpoint for addressing the issues of limited oral bioavailability of the lipophilic medicines.
