Flexible Work Schedules and Individual Work Performance
Author Name : Avijeet Subba, Dr. Nirmala Singh Rathore
ABSTRACT Flexible work schedules have become one of the most recent and significant changes in the modern workplace. There are many advantages to flexible work schedules for employees and employers. The current study examines how employee performance—including task performance, contextual performance, and counterproductive work behavior—is affected by flexible work schedules. A survey was conducted through Google Forms from 60 employees aged 18-55+ across various sectors and industries. The participants were divided into two groups: 30 employees working under traditional business hours and 30 employees on flexible schedules. Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses were conducted to compare the effects of flexible schedules on the three aspects of performance. According to the results, employees with regular working hours perform marginally better on tasks and in contexts and exhibit fewer instances of unproductive work behavior than those with flexible schedules. The study also shows that regular working hours, while marginally improving task and contextual performance and decreasing counterproductive work behavior, necessitate considering job role and individual preference when evaluating the overall efficacy of work schedules. This in turn points to the need for customized solutions for work arrangements to maximize employee productivity and job satisfaction.
