Formulation and Evaluation of Aceclofenac Floating Tablets
Author Name : M. Rajesh, A. Renuga, P. Surya Vijay, MS. Arun Kumar
ABSTRACT
Aceclofenac is a newer non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) showing effective anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties and mainly used in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. The objective of the study is to overcome the inherent drawbacks associated with the conventional dosage form of Aceclofenac. Aceclofenac floating tablets were prepared by direct compression method using various polymers such as HPMC, Methylcellulose and Ethylcellulose. The powder blend were evaluated for precompression parameters such as angle of repose, bulk density, tapped density, compressibility index, hausner’s ratio, drug – excipients compatibility studies and FT- IR studies. The formulated tablets were evaluated for thickness, hardness, weight variation, friability, disintegration test, drug content, swelling studies, In – vitro buoyancy studies and in-vitro dissolution studies. The FT-IR spectral studies revealed that there was no interaction between drug and excipients. Formulation F1 showed better drug release (98.62±0.56% at 12hrs) compared to other formulations. Hence the study concludes that formulation F1 containing HPMC polymer was found to be the better one which satisfied all the criteria for floating tablets.
