ABSTRACT

Biomate materials that have a role in human health have been the subject of a lot of research. This article discusses hydrogels, one of the most important topics in biomaterials research. Hydrogels are water-insoluble three-dimensional polymer networks with the ability to absorb considerable quantities of water or biological fluid in the body due to the presence of hydrophilic groups in their structure. Hydrophilic functional groups such as hydroxyl (OH-), carboxyl (COOH-), amine (NH2), and sulphate can be present in the parent polymer chain of hydrogels (SO3H-). Polymeric hydrogels can be made in a variety of ways, one of which is physical crosslinking.
