Formulation & Evaluation of Herbal Cream Using Extract of: Alpinia Galanga L. Willd

ABSTRACT Alpinia Galanga L. willd is known as greater galangal. It belongs to family zingiberaceae. Its phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, tannins, steroids, flavonoids, carbohydrates, saponin and glycosides. It shows various activities like antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antibacterial. Flavonoids, phenolic compounds, and essential oils are just a few of the bioactive substances found in Alpinia Galanga L. willd that have antioxidant characteristics. Cream containing antioxidant property is required beneficial to the skin because it helps to protect the skin cells from damage and ageing and also improve skin texture and appearance. In present work the cream was formulated with methanolic extract of Alpinia Galanga L. willd by fusion method. The evaluation of the formulations was done on different parameters like pH, spreadability, homogeneity, appearance, loss on drying, stability, washability, irritancy and grittiness. All the formulations were showed good pH, homogeneity, appearance, ease to remove, good consistency, spreadability and no microbial growth. The evaluation parameters of the formulated cream batches A, B, C and D, Batch A showed good results and are safe to use on the skin. The present result indicates that Alpinia Galanga L. willd extract has good potential for cosmetic product development.
