Gandhi's Thoughts on Basic Education in India

INTRODUCTION
Education system dreamed and proposed by Mahatma Gandhi is called as "Basic Education". He primarily focuses at the education in mother tongue and asked for activity focussed education to make the children skilled, independent and strong. Gandhi ji wanted to built small, self-reliant communities with its ideal citizens being all conscientious, self-respecting and generous individuals living in a small co-operative and community. He desired that some local craft must be made as source of education for children so that they develop their mind, body and soul in a harmonious way and also meet the needs of their forthcoming life. Such Gandhian Educational thoughts are significant for development and providing solutions of the present problems like unemployment, poverty, corruption and countless others. An effort has been made in this article to discuss the Gandhi's thoughts on basic education in India.
