Growth and Instability in Production of Eggs in India

Author Name : M. K. Jally

ABSTRACT

India is one of the lead egg producing countries in the world. However, per capita availability of egg in India is quite low as compared to other developed countries. Hence, in the present study, an attempt has been made to assess the growth and instability of egg production in India. The study covered a period of forty years extending from 1982-83 to 2021-22. The study period was further divided into four decades. Compound annual growth rate of egg production was estimated with the help of log-linear form of compound growth rate formula. Coefficient of variation and Coppock’s Instability Index were used to measure growth and instability in production of egg. The results of the study indicated that the growth rate of egg production was maximum in the final decade of the study (2012-13 to 2021-22) and the instability in egg production remained at low level during this period. Thus, India achieved high growth rate in egg production with more certainty during the last decade of the study. The study is concluded with the result that the poultry farming has considerable growth prospects in India.
