Growth and Pattern of Tourism in India: A Geographical Analysis

ABSTRACT

Tourism is the movement of people from one place to another usually outside their home environment for leisure, business or other intention. Now-a-day, tourism has become an important source of economic activity and employment opportunity in the whole world. Since the last decade, the tourism industry is flourishing at a very impetuous speed and blooming a probability of formulating employment opportunities and earning foreign exchange. The tourism industry has a multi-dimensional effect for the development of the economy in India. Abundance of natural, religious and cultural heritage sites attracts foreign tourists towards India. The present paper attempts to explain the growth and trend of tourists with special reference to domestic and foreign tourists and their pattern based on the secondary sources of data. The study conclusively reveals that the both the tourists has increased gradually upto the year of 2019 and a sharp decline has been recorded in 2020 due the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic.
