Hazardous Industrial Wastes: Trade and Environmental Concerns From a Legal Angle

Author Name : Mayuri Ramchandra Taware

ABSTRACT : Technology advancements are both a blessing and a curse. The damage to the environment has been exacerbated by the rise in technology use over the past years. The developed nations use this trade to remove the toxic waste from their borders that comes with industrialization. Hazardous waste from industrialized nations is sold to poor nations that lack the means to recycle it. Since they are the only nations ignorant of the implications of the highly dangerous damage generated, the poor countries handle the hazardous waste for financial gain. Wastes are byproducts of manufacturing and domestic processes; they can be solid, liquid, or gaseous. Improper handling of such waste make lead to severe repercussions. This paper deals with the scope of trading in hazardous waste and whether the laws are adequate in dealing with it and will also reflect upon the deficiencies in the existing laws and regulations.
