Histological changes in rat testes after long term exposure to Mobile Phone Radiation
Author Name : Nitu
Electromagnetic waves can damage sex organs and cause hormonal disorders. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of mobile phone radiation on Testosterone level and testicular changes. Rat testes were exposed to radio frequency electromagnetic radiation (RF-EMF) emitted from mobile phones. A rat weighing 40-50 gm were kept in steady-state micro environmental conditions (24+10C and 50+5% humidity). Rat were exposed to electromagnetic radiation using Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) mobile phone for 3 hrs. After 30 min. rest again exposed for 3 hrs. per day for 6 months. The following microscopic changes were found in the testes of cell phone radiation exposed mice. 1. Sertoli cell and Spermatogonia were detached from the basal lamina. 2. Number of leydig cells decreases at interstitial space. 3. Number of spermatozoa decreased. 4. Cells with vacuolated cytoplasm and condensed nuclei were also observed. Keywords: RF-EMF, Mobile, rat, testes, seminiferous tubules, leydig cells.
