ABSTRACT Keeping pace with population growth, rate of industrialization and urbanization, the demand of food grain and domestic need of water are increasing gradually putting more pressure on the existing water resources. As a result, the surface water sources are polluted to large extent and the necessity of groundwater is increasing steadily. At present, more than half of the water need in domestic and agricultural sectors in India is being met by groundwater. The availability of groundwater is not uniform everywhere. Its occurrence is controlled by factors like climate, topography, vegetation, hydrologic properties of rocks, their mode of occurrence etc. Thus, the hydrogeological attributes of an area are gaining importance in search for adequate supply of good quality groundwater.
