Identification of Gurvadi Guna on the Basis of Panch-Mahabhuta

ABSTRACT
Ayurveda is a system of medicine where management of ailments is primely based on the herbal origin. The pattern of description of Samhita is ‘neither too short nor too long’. It is not possible to speak about everything everytime but one should decide their specific and own application as per necessities and should determine appropriately. The drugs act by their inherent gunas which denotes panchbhautic mode of substances. Guna means attribute or basic nature of drugs. In ayurvedic samhita known as ‘brihattrayi’ gives us the idea and concept of mahabhuta. According to ayurvedic samhita each and every substance in this universe is panchbhautik. Hence the dravya is also panchbhautic. In ayurvedic samhita which is not clearly mentioned or described is known as anukta. The identification of gunas or any other rasa-panchak is identified the concept of mahabhuta. The concept of identification of gunas in dravya is not clearly described. This article gives us idea to identification of guna in dravya using panch-mahabhuta theory.
