ABSTRACT

Background: Non-Specific neck pain is defined as deep, dull aching and poorly localized musculoskeletal disorder. Myofascial Trigger points is hyperirritable spot along a taut band that triggers pain on compression or stretch giving rise to referred pain pattern. In which inhibited muscles and fascia undergo microtrauma. So, purpose of this study was to compare immediate effect of strain counter-strain technique versus muscle energy technique on pain and cervical range of motion among cricket players with upper trapezius trigger points

Methods: 32 cricket players with age of 18 to 25 years were taken through purposive sampling method and divided into two equal groups. Group A-received strain counter strain technique and group B –received muscle energy technique. outcome measures-NPRS for pain and cervical lateral flexion and rotation with universal goniometer were taken before and immediate after the treatment.

Result: Wilcoxon-test was done for within groups that showed significant increase in range of motion and decrease in Pain (p<0.001). Mann-Whitney U test was taken for between group analysis that also showed significant difference between two groups(p<0.001)

Conclusion: Study therefore concluded that muscle energy technique had a greater effect than strain counter strain technique in improving range and decreasing pain.
