Impact of Performance of the Human Resource Activities on Pothys Retail Pvt Ltd

Author Name : Dr. L. Karthikeyan, Sweatha L

ABSTRACT Human Resource (HR) activities play a pivotal role in determining the success and growth of organizations, especially in service-oriented industries like retail. The retail sector relies heavily on the performance and satisfaction of its employees to provide an exceptional customer experience, maintain operational efficiency, and sustain competitiveness. In this context, the present study explores the impact of HR activities on the performance of employees with a special focus on Pothys Retail Pvt Ltd, a well-established retail chain in South India known for its extensive range of textile products and strong brand presence. The primary aim of this research is to examine how various HR practices at Pothys, such as recruitment, selection, training and development, performance appraisal, compensation, and employee engagement, influence overall employee performance and organizational success. These HR activities are critical components of the employee lifecycle and are directly linked to how well the workforce can adapt to changing business environments, meet customer expectations, and contribute to the company’s long-term objectives. The study also delves into the impact of employee engagement initiatives, such as team-building activities, recognition programs, and employee welfare schemes, which were found to create a more positive workplace environment. These initiatives contribute to a sense of belonging and loyalty among employees, leading to lower turnover rates and higher productivity. Furthermore, employee engagement plays a significant role in maintaining employee morale, especially in highpressure retail environments where customer demands and work intensity can lead to burnout. From an organizational perspective, the research underscores the importance of aligning HR activities with business strategies. At Pothys, HR initiatives are increasingly being recognized as not just support functions, but as strategic drivers of business success. The study reveals that HR’s strategic involvement in decision-making processes, such as workforce planning, talent management, and leadership development, has a direct and positive effect on organizational performance. By ensuring that HR policies are designed to support business goals, Pothys can better manage employee performance and drive customer satisfaction
