ABSTRACT

This paper reviews a field survey which was conducted in different sites of Mobile towers located  in Rajpora Pulwama , Jammu and Kashmir to observe and investigate the effect of mobile tower radiation and harmful effects on birds. The  collected data was, analysed and observed near 250m inside and 250m outside of radius of mobile towers from the selected areas to know about the influences of mobile tower radiations on birds. Observations were chronicled from the selected areas which reveals that 219 birds were present representing 18 species belong to 06 orders and 10 families were recorded. Common myna belonging to family sturnidae were greater in numbers followed by Rock pigeon belonging to family columbidae. Himalyan bulbul ,Jungle crow,Eurasian jackdaw, and House sparrow were also present in the selected areas. The other species of birds from the selected areas were less  in number or were lacking from the areas. The number of birds recorded within 250 m radius of mobie  tower  was comparatively less than that found outside 250 m radius which reveals that these birds are affected more within this range as the number and effect of electromagnetic radiations emitted by mobile towers is inversely proportional to the distance as per ICNIRP (International Commission on Non lonizing Radiation Protection). Based on the present data it can be stated that the invisible harmful electromagnetic radiations emitted from cell phone towers affect the physiological, behaviour activities of birds. Hence  future research is essential to search more possible connection between electromagnetic radiations and their menacing effects on avian fauna.
