ABSTRACT The field of surgical instrumentation is witnessing a transformative paradigm shift with the integration of compliant mechanisms fabricated through additive manufacturing (AM). In this project the novelapplication of compliant mechanisms in the design andmanufacturing of surgical tools, showcasing the potential benefits and advancements enabled by this synergistic approach. The study highlights the role of these compliantstructures in achieving smoother motion, improved precision, and increased safety in surgical procedures. Additive manufacturing, particularly 3D printing, emerges as a key enabler in the production of intricate compliant mechanisms for surgical tools. The paper delves into the materials selection, design considerations, and fabrication techniques involved in creating compliant structures using AM. Special attention is given to the optimization of the tool's mechanical properties, ensuring compatibility with the demanding requirements of surgical applications. We have presented prototypes of surgical tools incorporating compliant mechanisms, illustrating their efficacy in minimally invasive procedures.
