ABSTRACT
This work entails designing and prototyping an I2C interface for connecting ADT7420 temperature sensor to an FPGA. Using the I2C (Inter-Integrated Circuits) single master protocol, which consists of a bidirectional data line, also known as serial data line (SDA), and serial clock line (SCL), faster devices can communicate without losing data with slower devices and with each other. A typical accuracy of better than 0.25 degrees Celsius is offered by the sensor, which supports up to 16-bit resolution. Field-programmable gate array chips were used to create the circuit in order to test its functioning and assess its performance. In this paper, an I2C bus on an FPGA (XC7A100T of NEXYS A7) that serves as a master for interacting with a temperature sensor (ADT7420) that serves as a slave was designed and implemented using the Verilog language. Xilinx 18.0 version is used throughout the entire design for both design and implementation.
