Improvement of Power Quality in Distribution System Using D-Statcom

ABSTRACT

To solve the power quality problems many FACTS devices are used and for controlling those many different control strategies are employed. Power quality problem mainly related to non-standard voltage, frequency, and current at the load side. Maximum AC loads consumes reactive power, it causes poor power quality in power system. The DSTATCOM is a compensating device which is used to control the flow of reactive power in the distribution systems.  In order to maintain the power system quality, the D-STATCOM will absorb and provide reactive power to mitigate the voltage sag occurred due to different causes. Power factor plays important role in the function of the power system network. Hence, the power factor improvement will increase the performance of power system equipments. A MATLAB simulink is used to show the significant change in the power supplied before and after the connection of STATCOM for the improvement of power factor.
