In-vitro propagation through leaf segment culture in Orchids-a review
Author Name : Anshu, Sushma Sharma
ABSTRACT
Orchids belong to Orchidaceae family and having 600-800 genera and 25000-35000 species.Orchids are esteemed for their beautiful flowers exhibiting an unbelievable range of variety in colour, shape and size. Today, growing orchids is not only a hobby, it has become a wide spread business all over the world covering around10% of the floriculture occupation. It has only become probable by acceptingin-vitro tissue culture techniques for their rapid multiplication. Since, orchids are strictly outbreeders, seed propagation results in uninvited heterozygous types. Therefore, vegetative propagation techniques needexact regeneration protocol for winningin-vitro cultured true plants. In fact, the practicalfeature ofmicropropagated orchids have off handedsignificantly in the past few years. The loopholes in micropropagation are stems from the soma clonal variation, phenolic compound exudation explants, hardening and so on. Weeffort to include the most important contribution based on orchid tissue culture starting from the pioneering work of Rotor, G. 1949 to Balilashakiet al., 2014.
