Incident Management and Root Cause Analysis
Author Name : Bharat Kumar Dokka, Dr Abhishek Jain
ABSTRACT Incident Management (IM) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) are key practices that organizations use in efforts to increase operational resilience and reduce instances of system failure. Over the past decade, there has been increasing focus on automating and standardizing such practices in order to improve efficiency and reduce the impact of human error. The addition of machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI), and predictive analytics into IM practices has revolutionized the process of incident detection and response, especially in dynamic environments such as cloud computing, multi-cloud environments, and DevOps practices. RCA practices have also evolved, with traditional practices complemented by advanced methods such as Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), especially in complex systems such as cybersecurity and manufacturing.
