ABSTRACT
The present report sought to make a detailed analysis of the geo-political and geo-strategic analysis of Ladakh from the national security point of India. The study of geo-political and geo-strategic significance of Ladakh holds immense significance for India in light of the recent developments. Ladakh is one of the most important regions of Jammu and Kashmir situated on the northern most point of India. Ladakh, is well known as the Land of Passes is the largest in area among the three main regions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh with an area of 95,876 km. The geographic expanse of the state of J&K was 2,22,236 sq km in 1947 out of which 78,114 sq km is today under the illegal occupation of Pakistan and 37,555 sq km under China.Ladakh is a geo-strategic area which is one of the core areas of border dispute between India and China. Thus, any study on India China Border issue will not be complete unless there is a in-depth study of Ladakh and the Line of Actual Control (LAC) existing in this rugged terrain. Ladakh holds a strategic significance in India's national security, considering its geographical location and ecological patterns.
