India’s Law and Mechanism on Domestic Violence

ABSTRACT Every culture and religion in the world consider marriage as a sacred institution. Violence in the home affects not only family relationships but also societal relationships, as well as the growth, advancement, and productivity of the country. Particularly when the woman is employed, domestic violence prevents her from working and from using her potential resources, talents, and capacities in her place of employment effectively and efficiently. Further, it causes families to break down, which negatively impacts children progress, growth, and overall development. As a result, children, health, physical, mental, spiritual, moral, and social development suffer. Domestic violence impacts women’s life, liberties, and privacy as well as violating numerous international human rights instruments. Domestic violence is addressed by a number of civil and criminal laws, although progress is being made extremely slowly. In order to settle the conflict amicably, the concerned parties require special care and attention as well as sympathy, direction, and advise.
