Influence of Regional Dialects in Malayalam movies

ABSTRACT

This paper tries to portray the influence of regional dialects in Malayalam movies and its additional narrative techniques. There are at least twelve or more distinct regional dialects in Malayalam and they are portrayed in the dialogues of characters appeared in Movies as well as Dramas. When the Movies transformed from silent to spoken, the question of Dialect of different characters became an issue. Malayalam movies managed this issue in a specific manner. Malayalam cine actor Mammootty’s characters portray most of the regional dialects of Malayalam. The question of Standardization, hierarchy of language use etc. are addressed in this paper.
